Blyde dam boat trips open and compliant to Covid regulations
Be inspired, enlightened, educated and enthused by this memorable and respectful opportunity to meet and learn more about some of the Jabulani herd elephants and their passionate carers.
Arrive at sunrise to meet a few members of an extraordinary family, the Jabulani Herd. Delve deeper into the biology and physiology of these gentle giants while learning about each elephant’s unique personalities and remarkable stories.
The respectful 90-minute experience takes place at the Jabulani elephant stables, which borders the HERD elephant orphanage. The Orphanage does not allow the public to visit their premises or to view the orphans, to keep their stress levels to a minimum.
The Jabulani Herd elephants that you will meet represent the rest of the herd which they join a little later to continue foraging during their days in the Kapama Private Reserve. There will be between two to three elephants introduced who remain behind a low partition creating a respectful distance between the elephants and the visitors.
Visitors will have an opportunity to provide some elephant snacks to each elephant, as well as a chance to take a snapshot memory of the memorable experience, with the guidance of the carers.
Complimentary coffee and tea with biscuits will be provided upon arrival and available to enjoy until the end of the experience.
Following your Elephant Moments experience, you will have the opportunity to purchase a souvenir in our gift shop, with proceeds going towards the HERD TRUST.

I have now been twice in 2024. The experience starts as you enter the gate of the game reserve. You can have a game drive just getting to the experience. Depending on the vehicle that you are travelling in , it can take 30 minutes. We saw a herd of elephants and a herd of buffalo before we even got there. The presentation was excellent and sufficient information about the project before the chance to get close up to the ellies. Highly recommended. - Paula
As normal it was out of this world to love and hug one of the big five and to feed and get close to such huge animal and in return they are so loving and caring. And so we're the keepers and as it was the dry season it was lots of fun watching the warhogs and impala. - Lesa
Outstanding, we had the most incredible morning. The elephants are well cared for and the passion for the project shines through each and everyone we had the pleasure of meeting! ? Highly recommend, thank you - Charlene
A 5-star experience. An absolute "must" do activity when in Hoedspruit. It'll touch you, It'll change you! - Con
This was my second back here and it was still as magical as the first. I love every minute of it and would do it again and again and again. - Funeka
