Blyde dam boat trips open and compliant to Covid regulations
This 5 hour trip begins near the Strjidom Tunnel, bordering Mpumalanga and the Limpopo Provinces. Kitted out with helmets and life jackets, guests wind their way down a small gorge, jumping from heights ranging from 1-8m into crystal clear mountain spring water. It’s a lot of fun and is perfect to try out the whole idea as you can chicken out if you like and walk around to the bottom of the pool.
One section requires the guests to crawl through a maze of caves formed by centuries of water carving out the brittle rock. Once through the caves, guests are taken to a magnificent tufa waterfall to wash off the sand and mud from their clothing. After that, the clients are taken to a magnificent cave, boasting its own fresh water spring and the most peculiar fresh water eel, which almost always emerges to see whether the guides brought him a morsel.
The rest of the trip zigzags across the river and through a spectacular riverine forest, until you finally emerge on the banks of the Olifansts river where your transport is waiting with a cold drink and snack
Kloofing, or canyoning is the art of following a mountain stream down its course by floating, or jumping or swimming. By its very nature, kloofing takes place in a river gorge, deep in the mountains. The point of kloofing, is to leap over waterfalls or cliffs into pools.

We had a brilliant experience with the kloofing, a little nervous at first for the unknown and worried about the hight of the jumps but it was great. The water that was so brown from the rain the night before but that just added to the adventure. We were also with a fun group which made a difference and the guide was also great fun and a pleasure. Climbing down the ladder part was a bit scary and happy we all made it down ok. Lots of adrenaline at that point. Beautiful views and nature experience. We enjoyed all aspects of hiking, cave, jumping, getting wet and being all in. We even did that last jump (myself, not very well) but so happy we did, my thought was, I probably wouldn't, but after such an adventure how could I not. Very muddy and slippery, so careful footing and care was taken. The ending at the village and being collected by van parked at the beautiful Baobab tree was awesome. Pity the locals who live there don't have a little stall set up selling drinks ect. especially for the foreigners. We unfortunately didn't take any images which we did regret. we didn't have a camera and didn't think the phone would be suitable cause we had no idea what to expect. We loved it and would definitely recommend it. Thank you - Lynne
It was disappointing. The composition of the group made the tour slow and tedious. Moreover the surroundings of the areas were very much littered and the travel time versus actual activity were out of balance. Summarised: overpromissed and underdelivered - Kees
That's a wonderful experience which I think everyone should have. I've done kloofing so many times but I just can't get enough of it, you get to be so in touch with nature and the last jump I wish I can take it home and do it every 2nd day of my life. Coming back again, definately i'll be around sooner than you think. - Comfort
The experience was amazing. The activity was well presented and the people knowledgeable and friendly. Would definitely recommend it. - Richenda
