Enjoy a special hour getting up close to these magnificent elephants. Discover their intelligence, gentle nature, and the unique bonds they share with their human family.

With our friendly elephant handlers guiding you, learn fun and fascinating facts while feeding, touching, and taking photos with Tembo, our much-loved gentle giant. It’s a memorable, hands-on experience for all ages, filled with moments of connection and wonder.

WhenWe’re open every day of the year, except for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day when we take a little break. Bookings are required and subject to availability.

WhereElephant Whispers is located in Hazyview, next to Hippo Hollow Hotel on the R40. Simply follow the R40 through Hazyview — you’ll find us easily alongside the hotel. Please look out for our signage along the way. GPS Co-Ordinates: SOUTH -25° 1’ 39.2268” | EAST 31° 7’ 30.9822”

WeatherFor your safety and comfort, the activity may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of heavy rain or thunderstorms.

What to WearWe recommend dressing comfortably and casually so you can relax and enjoy your elephant experience. Closed shoes are important for walking activities. Don’t forget sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to keep you protected in the sun, and bring a light jacket or jersey during the cooler months — our elephants enjoy the outdoors in all seasons!

Things to BringA camera to capture special moments (a spare memory card and extra batteries are a great idea) — there will be plenty of memorable moments. Sunscreen to stay protected in the Lowveld sun. Mosquito repellent, especially for early mornings and late afternoons.

Guests or SpectatorsVisitors not taking part are welcome to wait in the reception area. Kindly note that the Elephant Interaction is reserved for participating guests only.

Notes

For the well-being of both our guests and our elephants, safety guidelines are shared before each activity. Experienced handlers are present throughout to guide you. Please bring your own camera (our team will happily assist with photos). Refreshments are available for purchase on site. If rain is expected, please bring suitable rainwear — our elephants aren’t fans of umbrellas, so we kindly ask that they stay tucked away. Children under 16 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian aged 21 years or older.
